STORY

Our

Welcome to our Kitchen

Our little story and how we came to be

We are Mikki's Croatian Kitchen, a small family-operated business that offers our customers homegrown, handpicked and handmade Croatian products. All ingredients are grown on our farm in Dubrovnik and picked seasonally or sourced locally. Our backyard hosts a small orchard where we grow lemons, oranges, mandarins and grapefruit. Steps away from our back door are our everchanging vegetable, herb, and flower gardens, with tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, rosemary, olives, lavender and more.

We prefer to garden without the use of any pesticides or chemicals. To do so, we keep free-range chickens as a natural way to eliminate bugs and de-weed our gardens. We take great pride in the high-quality, authentic flavours and traditionally handcrafted preparations of our products.

We aim to be as eco-minded and sustainable as possible and are continually striving to show our local community better ways to think and be green. We welcome you to explore our homemade products. Dobrodošli! Welcome!

Ideal environment

Providing the tastes of Croatia

You will find us in the picturesque Župa Valley, surrounded by mountains which we share with neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina. To the south, a short 40-minute drive will find the border of Montenegro. The Old Town of Dubrovnik is 18 minutes from our doorstep, and a peaceful 25-minute walk has us swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Whether you are Croatian or visiting from overseas, let us provide you with the healthiest and tastiest memories of Croatia through our wide range of artisanal products!

Head Chef, Mikki Kojakovic

The force and the heart of the Kitchen

Hi, I’m Mikki!

I am the founder and heart behind Mikki’s Croatian Kitchen.

As an Australian, I have travelled the world for many years. I have immersed myself in many different cultures, explored local foods and flavours, and have made friends all over the globe.

My love story with Croatia began when I was introduced to a tall, handsome Croatian man named Nikša, while we were both working onboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean.

We fell in love and were married in Australia two years later. In 2003 we moved permanently to the Župa valley, a 15-minutes drive from Dubrovnik Old Town.  Our two sons, Jon and Jak arrived as toddlers and have enjoyed a safe and happy childhood here in Dubrovnik.

I have always been passionate about nature and the environment. As a qualified aromatherapist and herbalist, I have extensive experience in working with herbs, plants and minerals. In knowing how to extract and impart the best flavours and nutrients from these ingredients, I create products with wonderful natural benefits. Our long, hot summers, mild winters and fresh mountain waters provide the ideal conditions for our nutrient-rich herbs, plants and sea salt. Knowing how to make the most of these organic and local Croatian ingredients has been vital to our success.

A village of supporters

Helping hands, happy hearts

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and the same can be said for a small family run business. Great people bring good energy, shared talents and continued support to create the ongoing enjoyment, love and care that flows into our products. We are grateful to so many who have contributed to the heart of Mikki's Croatian Kitchen.

Along with Mikki and her family, Mikki's Croatian Kitchen has had many helping hands shape the direction and growth of our kitchen and products. Many friends from various backgrounds have been our willing guinea pigs, testing our kitchen and helping to enhance our products. Tech-savvy friends, photographers, videographers, and other small business owners have helped us convert our love for spices, nature, and Croatia into a happy, hardworking business.
